Blindly Dashing Forward -- EverPath #01
Everpath is a Rogue-Lite dungeon crawler RPG; think the original Zelda or Binding of Isaac.
Good looking pixel graphics, and the music is good. Got a bit of a Darklands vibe from the character art; thats what drew me to this game. Let's see if that was a good idea...
Notes on Controls: The controls take a bit to get used to; some of them are VERY questionable; one button (X) being devoted to lvling up; that is ALL it does. "Start" opening the menu, but pushing it again does not (WHY?). Alot of weird stuff like that; if the developer ever sorts that stuff out, this game will become very popular, or at least FAR more popular then it is.
Note on attacking: At 18:39 I discover that you have to rotate your character to attack different directions; "aiming" like in a twin stick shooter; that was not expected nor very intuitive; but as I played more I see why. It does add ALOT of depth and tactical consideration to the combat; button mashing will only get you so far.
Notes on Movement: The slowness and ice-skating effect of movement in this, (for me) was due to the V-sync being set to "On" (I have no idea why) turning it off solved the problem. Still, it shouldn't have happened. Alot of people will see that and refund the game, so it is something the developer should iron out; or at least SET IT TO OFF BY DEFAULT! I realizes this V-sync issue after the video, as at first, I'd assumed that was just how the game as. And as it was a blind Lets Play, I had assumed the gameplay trailer had been speed up. Still, I will leave this video as is as it highlights the many issues I encountered in it as a first time player to it, but far from a first time player to the genre (rogue-lites).
I do encourage you to watch the 2nd video; in it I am more familiar with the controls, and have solved the slow-down issue; thus that video is more representative of an experienced and polished Lets Play, as opposed to that of a blind first-timer; but both can be fun :)
Stumble through with me:) Then Lets get good together in the sequel: https://youtu.be/h-pKx2F9WLI
