I have been trying to find a copy of Thrill Drive 2 to add to my arcade PCB collection for over a year...and about eight months ago I found a broken Konami Viper board! But it took me a minute to get around to repairing it and writing the RTC file to boot my original CF card of Thrill Drive 2. But clearly I finally did it...retro gaming laziness is over!

WHICH MEANS I CAN NOW FINALLY DO ONE BIG SERIES ON THE THRILL DRIVE SERIES FROM KONAMI! Arcade retro gaming racing for the win!

Thrill Drive from Konami is one of the absolute best arcade racing franchises around but sadly its a very obscure gaming footnote in the pantheon of arcade games. You will never hear Thrill Drive in the same conversation as something like Daytona USA, Scud Race or Ridge Racer...but you should! Because Thrill Drive is obscure gaming history and it needs to be experienced!

We will be talking about Thrill Drive on the NWK-TR arcade PCB which launched the franchise and inspired the Burnout games, Thrill Drive 2 on the Konami Viper and Thrill Drive 3 which runs on PS2 based arcade Python 2 boards...and can be emulated in PCSX2 as we showed last year!

Unfortunately the fourth game "Crazy Streets" is rarer than rare and I have yet to find a PCB to purchase...so its a trilogy for now. But if you find me one I will pick it up for video game history and preservation purposes!

Sadly the Konami Viper emulation in MAME isn't ready for primetime yet as all of the games are unplayable. So while you can play Thrill Drive in MAME and Thrill Drive in PCSX2...Thrill Drive 2 is not playable without real hardware. Emulation is great but there isn't an emulator for everything yet!

But all three of these games are absolutely considered gaming hidden gems! and for Thrill Drive 2 a PS2 hidden gem!
