Father Gascoigne is a blood-soaked hunter.

Gascoigne exhibits great strength in battle and has an imposing height, towering over the Hunter. He is dressed in a typical priest outfit, which consists of a black capello romano, a priest garb, and a purple scarf.

During his boss battle it is revealed that Gascoigne is infected with the plague, causing him to transform into an ogre-like creature. In beast form, he becomes stronger, faster and more agressive, at the cost of his sanity and humanity.

Father Gascoine is a lost father of Viola, a local girl, and a husband to the woman with the red brooch, whose body lies on the roof of a nearby building after his boss battle. Despite his title, he is not a priest of the Church of Healing, which can be made out from the description of his cloth. This can point to a possible foreign origin of their family. He is an experienced hunter and usually his wife plays a Music Box to draw him home when he's been out for long. The last time however, the wife has disappeared while searching for him, having left the music box at home.

Gascoigne is found for the first time in Yharnam, at the beginning of the bridge where the Cleric Beast is fought. If the player approaches him, he will help the player against a pack of Lycanthropes. If a player uses the coop bell before the Cleric Beast, he will help him as well. A while later in the game, Gascoigne will face the player in a boss battle, forcing the player to kill him.

When Gascoigne kills the player he will mutter the words "sick creature... may you rest in peace... Umbasa". Umbasa is an expression (similar to the "Amen" or "God bless you" of Christianity) used by clerics and religious people in the world of Demon's Souls, Bloodborne's spiritual predecessor.
Using the Tiny Music Box in close proximity causes him to stop attacking, instead clutching his head in pain and muttering to himself. This can only be used 3 times during a battle, and it is recommended the player uses it mainly during phase two, where Father switches to using a large axe. (Side Note: Using the "Tiny music box" during this battle will make him change into beast form sooner.)
Had a partner - Henryk, the yellow hunter, which can later be fought on the same place with Eileen, the Hunter of Hunters.
