Blue Chip Model BCD/5.25 Floppy Disk Drive (1541 Clone) PSU Mod
This is a Video about my PSU Mod for the Blue Chip BCD/5.25 Commodore 1541(II) compatible Floppy Disk Drive. I Bought it years ago on a flea market for only a few bucks, but ist was missing the power supply. Back then I couldn't find any infos about the PSU or the drive, so I put it away in my storage. Now I searched again and found some infos about the original PSU. It takes 9 and 18 Volt AC and uses a totally non standard plug for that. Those are rectified internaly and converted to 5 and 12 Volt DC by a 7805 and a 7812. So I decided to bypass the whole stuff and feed 5 and 12 Volts directly to the board. This is very easy with this drive since the 78xx are screwed to a large cooler and the cables are simply plugged into them, so I removed the plugs and fed the 5 and 12 volt fram a 1541II PSU to the pins of the plug, where the output of the 78xx normally ends. I pluged it in and it worked first try! This is just a test setup to see if it works... and it does! So now I have to do it properly. Thanks for watching and please leave a comment if you please.
