In order for me to rant/ramble about the events within this video, I will have to mention some fairly big spoilers for the game so, if you haven’t played/seen this section before, that you should probably stop reading this now. So, after taking out Zarpedon, we now have to stop the laser itself (which for some reason is still firing even though we’ve killed her; who put an auto-fire feature on the laser? Did they have to leave to get lunch but had to keep firing at the enemies so they just installed this?). We find out that the Eye of Helios is actually the eye from the original vault monster (from the really anticlimactic ending of the first game, Kappa). It seems as though Jack stole the eye somehow and connected it to a mechanical system as a sort of conduit. Not sure how exactly he was able to get the eye since, as far I remember, the vault from the original game closed on us; maybe the creature’s corpse was on our side of the portal before it closed? Regardless, once we get to the eye we stop it from working when, out of the blue, Moxxi betrays us. I knew that there was going to be a betrayal scene with Lilith and Roland because they are fighting Jack in the second game but, Moxxi’s motivation to do this isn’t really explained. Yes, Jack has murdered enough people to show that he is evil but they never go into much detail into why she dislikes him. The only mention is that she has been watching him murder people and doesn’t like it so she tries to blow-up the entire base. It was a nice twist (having Moxxi do the betrayal) but I would’ve like a little more build up to it; it kind of feels out of the blue for Moxxi of all people to do the deed. It would’ve been cool if we got a glimpse of their relationship and why it didn’t work out; maybe something happened between them that made Moxxi rethink everything and begin to distrust him. Either way, the Eye of Helios gets badly damaged (I can’t quite call it destroyed because it was used within the second game so…), Jack got betrayed by his ex-girlfriend and we have a vault to look for before Roland and Lilith do. Before we do any of that though, we have some optional mission to go complete.
