Penn State football got another critical commitment in the Class of 2024, securing its first defensive back of the cycle. Three-star cornerback Kenny Woseley committed to the Nittany Lions on Friday afternoon. He’s part of a growing defensive unit that doubled the class size this week. Recruiting insider Ryan Snyder explains,
“This is an offer that won out a long time ago. And really, whether it was now or whether it was in the spring or even if he did go see some more schools, I always expected him to be in line. So. Penn State gets its first cornerback in the class. You know, they have three defensive players now, of course, two linebackers in Anthony Speca and Kari Jackson and of course, Cooper Cousins, who committed over a year ago.”
The Philadelphia native and Imhotep high school junior is a great fit for the program, according to Snyder.
Certainly a physical player. I’ve been impressed with him in press coverage and situations like that. Just a smart player as well. So whether he ends up being kind of a slot guy, we’ll see. I think it’ll kind of depend on who else they add here down the road and of course, how much he grows as well.”
Snyder and film analyst Thomas Frank Carr discuss Woseley’s fit at Penn State, and while Snyder sees him as a good fit, T-Frank does have some questions about that.
“Two things, though, that come to mind. As you mentioned Joey Porter Jr, not every guy has to be the biggest guy in the world, but Penn State has set a certain threshold of athleticism at corner. Certain positions have elevated their profile as a room, not just individual players. Kenny, I think, has to prove he fits in that group.”
Penn State added two three-star defenders this week, with linebacker Kari Jackson committing to the program on Tuesday. It’s a good baseline for a group that Snyder expects to surpass the 25 scholarship threshold, which is the normal cap for any given cycle.
"Could I see another commitment or two in March? Certainly. I think the goal really from this spring get out of spring with six or seven commitments if you can.”
