Each week the BWI Daily Edition opens up the mailbag for the audience to hear what’s on their mind. Today listeners and viewers of the show want to know more about the situation with Dante Cephas, how Beau Pribula is progressing during winter workouts, and more. The show’s highlight, however, is the discussion about spring camp battles, which are less than two weeks from starting.

Check out the full show to get the entire conversation, but here are some of the highlights from the mailbag. As always, you can watch the show at 7 pm on YouTube or listen wherever you get your podcasts.

Penn State quarterback Beau Pribula is an overlooked player for this upcoming year because of the presence of Drew Allar. Yet Pribula stands out in social media posts and from the internal conversation. There’s a reason for that, says Sean Fitz,

“Bo was like this last year. I mean, if you followed our coverage last year, but everybody kept going back to Bo. He’s built for this. He is a guy that works his ass off, and He’s a guy that you gravitate to in the sense that you can be a captain one day.”

Despite the many gifts of the former five-star Allar, Pribula is a workout warrior who will shine when the lights are off, and the improvement is done in the offseason. Fitz says his presence has been notable.

“All the things that you look for in winter workouts beyond the throwing, the football, beyond all the actual football skills [he has]. He’s really talented as an athlete and very versatile with a high, high competitive nature. So this isn’t a surprise, no matter the scenario.

And it was it was like this a year ago. He was ahead of Drew at this time last year as well.”

Another interesting point this offseason has been the acquisition of Dante Cephas, but his absence from the facility. Cephas must graduate from Kent State before enrolling at Penn State, which complicates the rules. However, Fitz clarified the situation,

“They’re good on contact with Dante Cephas. So originally, this was explained in the sense that he was going to go back to Penn State, withdraw from the portal, finish out, and graduate in the spring. He’s still in the portal, which keeps, you know, it doesn’t really change many things coaches from other schools can still reach out to, but it gives Penn State the ability to keep in contact legally. The lines of communication open between the two sides.”

Lastly, Nate Bauer and Fitz discuss the Penn State spring camp competitions. As you might expect, middle linebacker is once again center stage.

“That’s a position that people are going to wring their hands about all offseason. I don’t know how much you get accomplished in the spring between Elston and King.

The most intriguing thing about the Mike linebacker battle is whether you get Abdul Carter a chance to run in the middle there. Because that would be really nice.”
