"BreakThru" by developed and published by Data East for the Nintendo Entertainment Ssytem (NES features a small futuristic car armed with a basic arsenal, tasked with traversing through monotonous military vehicles.

The gameplay resembles a side-scrolling shoot-em-up, with players guiding the car deep into enemy territory to retrieve a stolen futuristic jet. Despite the occasional visually appealing enemy designs like flame-throwing tanks and helicopters, the game prioritizes action over aesthetics. The NES port has improved enemy placement for balanced difficulty compared to versions for other platforms.

The game offers a mechanic where the screen's scrolling speed adjusts as the player moves the vehicle left or right, enhancing precision. Impressive jumps are also crucial to navigate pitfalls and obstacles. These jumps are a highlight, their height and distance determined by the vehicle's speed. This mechanic, reminiscent of Data East's earlier "Bump 'n' Jump," adds a layer of engagement.

The game comprises five levels, each with names like Mountains, Bridges, Prairie, City, and Airfield. The final level introduces catchy music and intense enemy encounters. At the end, players board the recovered jet, which flies away as they are congratulated.
