Bright Memory Is a Worthy Case Study for Aspiring Solo Devs
So this was a game that I remembered being impressed with in terms of the visuals and gameplay, and even more impressed that someone had made it by themselves. It's more or less a tech demo using the unreal 4 engine with some hack and slash mechanics put into it. It's pretty decent but the sequel is much better. In saying that though, Bright Memory is a good case study for those that feel discouraged and feel unsure if they can make a good looking shooter on their own.
And there's no right or wrong for what engine to use, it just depends on the workflow that you're comfortable with and whether it's tools can make the game you wanna make.
Also, the game had received controversy in the past regarding stolen assets. But from what I had also read, the developer had tried to seek out the original owner for some of the original assets that were modified within the first Bright Memory.
