This was a total conversion mod for quake 2 that basically set the groundwork for Counter Strike due to some of the existing elements such as locational damage and recoil, as well as a modern day setting. Two of the creators
of Counter Strike had originally worked on this game.

The Action mod would then get two other sequels, one for Half Life and another for Unreal Tournament. Action Quake 2 is still a fun multiplayer game that was quite unique, and there really wasn't anything like it at all
in the 90s, at least until Counter Strike came out anyways.

Nowadays not that many people play it anymore or remember it even existed, aside from the veterans of Quake 2, the people who still play Action Quake 2 and the people who had created it in the first place. But the brainstorming of Counter Strike within this games development would be crucial to the eventual realization of it once Half Life came out.
