Bring Her Back Interview: Danny & Michael Philippou Were Terrified of Sally Hawkins
333At long last, we're returning to theaters for the Australian filmmaking duo Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou's sophomore feature with A24, Bring Her Back. The Philippou brothers first brought us an original occult horror movie with 2022's Talk to Me, which instantly became a genre staple, and now, they're at it again.
Starring Academy Award-nominee Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) and an ensemble cast of up-and-coming talent, Bring Her Back follows a brother and sister, played by Billy Barratt (Invasion) and Sora Wong (in her on-screen debut), who uncover a sinister secret at their new foster home.
Collider's Perri Nemiroff had the opportunity to chat with the Philippou brothers, as well as Barratt, Wong, and Jonah Wren Phillips (How to Make Gravy) who plays Oliver in the film. In this interview, they discuss Hawkins' powerhouse performance, the most challenging aspects of making a horror movie, and the prosthetics required to complete some of the movie's goriest scenes.
