My next video will feature my reaction to the developer commentary of the original version of the game Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake! This game released on the Xbox One and Xbox Series families of consoles on February 28th, 2024. It was developed by Avantgarden Games and published by 505 Games.

In this video, the lead write and director, Joseph Fares, comments on gameplay of the original game while providing his insight on the various factors of game development.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake is a puzzle-adventure game that revolves around two brothers: Naiee and Naia who have to travel far away to the Tree of Life in an effort to save their dying father from a strange sickness. The boys quickly embark on their long and arduous journey that takes them through their own village, to the very top of the nearby mountains, deep into a Dwarven mine currently occupied by large orcs and trolls, a dark and scary forest filled with wolves, the faraway valley and land of the giants, a frozen tundra occupied by cultists and past a desolate, snowy village where the villagers were mysteriously frozen to death until they finally make it to the Tree of Life. Along the way, they find themselves overcoming many different obstacles (such as finding a way to the very top of a steep and narrow mountain or around the bodies that litter the battlefield where the giants once had a great battle) and facing difficult challenges (such as aforementioned wolves, orcs and trolls). Eventually, the two brothers have to save a young girl from being sacrificed by the cultists who then helps them get the rest of the way. However, the boys soon learn that her help comes at a cost...which brings yet another challenge that they have to overcome in order to save their father's life.

The gameplay in this game is actually quite challenging to learn and get accustomed to as, if you play the game in single player, the player will have to learn how to control both brothers at the same time using a single controller. Each brother is controlled with each thumbstick and each trigger is used to perform an action with each individual brother. The bumpers are used to turn the camera either left or right. Thankfully, those are the only controls that the player will have to memorize so most of the player's time will be spent mastering the unique challenge of controlling two characters at once. The setting and story are most certainly, in my opinion, the main things that originally drew me to the game as the vibrant, fantasy world is gorgeously realized and the story is as heartfelt as it is gut-wrenching.

Finally, with regards to the achievements in this game: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake includes a total of 14 achievements for a total of 1000 GS (which actually added two (2) additional achievements from the game's original release). Most of the achievements here are actually miscellaneous and missable as they are related to the completing random actions such as taking a break and skipping some rocks in the ocean or saving a giant mother turtle's babies that were lost somewhere within the frozen tundra. The good thing is that the game does have chapter select which means you can always go back to the chapter and mop up any achievements you may have missed. That being said, this is a fairly easy completion that should take you around 2 to 3 hours.
