Brutal Doom... Is brutally dull
10Finally got around to playing this mod... I'll stick with Doom 2016 thank you very much.
For those who don't know: Brutal Doom is an exceptionally popular Doom mod that adds in both new and improved weapons, changes enemy ai, improves the graphics with additional particle effects and changed textures, and lets you do "brutal" stuff like fatalities. Sounds good on paper right? Well in execution its actually really bland.
Today the mod itself is now extremely controversial and has almost become a point of shame for the Doom community (even amongst those who like it), many still sing praises for it but it has also met a ton of detractors who condemn the mod for various (actually sensible) reasons: one of the biggest being the fact the mod itself isn't special at all despite its great reception. There are tons of mods that do what it does already and do it better no less. To make matters worse for the mod, its creator SgtMarkIV is by all standards a colossal jerk. Alongside the classic "can't take any criticism" problem a lot of fan creators have, he is also notorious for his cyberbullying and sexism. There is a good reason all major Doom forums have banned him.
If you want some cheap thrills the mod definitely has it, but if you want a really good Doom mod that makes the game prettier while adding in more action you are better off with something like the Russian Overkill, Psychophobia, or Beautiful Doom.
