Risky Business is a 1983 American teen sex comedy drama film written and directed by Paul Brickman (in his directorial debut) and starring Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay. Best known as Cruise's breakout film, Risky Business was a critical and commercial success, grossing more than $63 million against a $6.2 million budget.

Ecstatic when his parents leave on vacation for a few days, high school senior Joel Goodsen (Tom Cruise) cuts loose with his best friend Miles. After an attempt at securing the services of a prostitute goes slightly awry, Joel hires gorgeous Lana (Rebecca De Mornay) for a night of delight. Stunned by the amount of Lana's "bill" the next morning, Joel grows frantic after he crashes his father's Porsche. In an effort to raise lots of money fast, a desperate Joel turns the house into a brothel.

Blunt 'Hill Street Blues' detective Norman Buntz sets up shop as a PI in laid-back California with help from geeky sidekick Sid 'The Snitch' Thurston in this fish-out-of-water series, which sank in five months. Dennis Franz would later refine Buntz's shoot-from-the-lip persona for his star-making role as troubled detective Andy Sipowitz on 'NYPD Blue.'
