I like this weird bag of antiquated experiments. No part of Arx Fatalis manages to even resemble modern game design. The dialogue was clearly mostly done by devs with no acting chops. The game actively doesn't tell you some of the mechanics. The dragon sounds like SHODAN. The menu doesn't pause the game, but does disable mouselook so you can navigate it. You have to draw the spells with the mouse, which is fun but an objectively bad idea. It's always interesting to go back to the old projects of now-renowned studios. Now, I will say the game became a chore in the last few hours, but I suspect it will go a lot better when I play it again some day, now that I understand how the game wants you to build your character. Overall, I like them janky, but I think this game does actually manage to still be quite good!
