Bugsnax is an adventure video game created by Young Horses, an independent game studio. Players visit a strange island in search of and catch the game's titular half-bug, half-snack monsters. Bugsnax is a first-person adventure game in which players explore Snaktooth Island and use various contraptions to search and catch various Bugsnax creatures. There are 100 Bugsnak animals to catch. The Bugsnax can be caught and fed to the nearby Grumpuses, who change their bodies depending on the properties of the Bugsnak they consume. Players take care of an anonymous newspaper journalist who receives a film strip from Lizbert Megafig, a disgraced adventurer, in the mail one day.
Lizbert describes the enigmatic Snaktooth Island, which is home to Bugsnax, "part worm, half snack" animals, and asks the journalist to visit the island and film them for the rest of the world to see. The journalist arrives on the island, intrigued, only to learn from Lizbert's assistant Filbo Fiddlepie that she has vanished, along with all of the other Grumpuses who had accompanied her on her expedition. Filbo asks the journalist to assist him in bringing the others back to Snaxburg, their makeshift den, so that they can band together to figure out what happened to Lizbert.
