bullets can't go faster than about 5,000 feet per second. I know what youre gunna say, why not just get to that limit and add more gunpowder? but gunpowder only has a detonation velocity of about 23,000 feet per second. and some of that is used up pushing the weight of the expanding gas itself. even with light bullets, we haven't been able to break 5,000 fps. that was with .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer firing a 50 grain bullet at 4,600 feet per second, and AAI's entry into the advanced combat rifle program, the one with the G11, firing a 10 grain 1.6mm flechette at almost that exact same speed.
