Released in late 2000 for the Dreamcast, "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command" was a port of the PlayStation 1 game released earlier in the same year.

As a Dreamcast Action / Running game, this is a great game that would apply to any age group. The game has a fun campaign and it follows the cartoon series quite well. It also expands on the Star Command universe by adding more elements that were not seen in the cartoon series, which is a nice bonus of this game. This becomes obvious later in the game, where Buzz enters levels and fights villains that were not featured in the cartoon series. The graphics are good for the Dreamcast machine, using cell-shading techniques.

For me, one disappointing thing about this game is that the game places a heavy emphasis on racing and running, rather than the exploration and adventure that was seen in the previously-released "Toy Story 2" game. This gameplay style works very well, but I was expecting a bit more adventure like in the previous game. Considering that this game was released for children, some of these levels become quite hard, especially with later levels that have short time constraints and tons of enemies.

One aspect of this game that I find very unfair is that the game doesn't give you the requirements needed for earning medals prior to starting a level. I try hard to get bonus medals, but because of that, it is hard for me to earn them without knowing what I need. Because the game only gives you only 15 seconds to catch-up with the villain, I make it to the finish line with barely and time left, sometimes with only a few seconds left. 30-40 seconds would have been more reasonable, considering that this was a children's game.

These are just minor complaints that I have, but this is still a great Dreamcast game for obvious reasons. See for yourself :)

Foreign versions were released in English, French, and German only. However, the Dreamcast version's booklets were translated into Spanish (Spain release) and Italian (Italian release).
