"The profession of lumberjack had become more difficult for Jonathan Thompson, especially after his promotion to "forester": it was a continuous struggle against vandals, hunters and poachers and even against the vagaries of the time.

But after all, there were also days when he could enjoy the beauty of those places undisturbed, and walk or take a rest at the feet of some giant sequoia, or on the river bank: all things that made sense of that life of solitude.
Unfortunately, as often happens, Jonathan's routine was distorted by the arrival of a 'disturbing element'.
It happened on a September afternoon, when the days began to get less hot and the summer storms decreased in frequency and intensity.

Jonathan was walking among the gigantic trunks of the sequoias, when a noise of machinery made him jump: he immediately went to the source of that din and was stunned to find that a group of workers had cleared a wooded area and was about to plant some curtains.
Approaching slowly I discovered that the curtains bore the writing 'A.C.M.E. -Construction', and it is enough that discovery made him decide that it would have been much wiser to go immediately to warn the Rangers by radio.

So he headed back, and headed for his hut, but soon suspicious noises behind him convinced him that someone was following him.

I quickened my pace almost to run, and arrived in front of the door of his sweaty and panting shed: the moment he was about to open he turned to see if his pursuers were in sight, and I found myself in front of a group of robust men who without saying a single word they began to beat him.
When he woke up he was on the ground, in front of the broken door of his shed, and he felt terrible pains all over his body: I try to get up, and I managed to suffer terribly.

He absolutely had to warn the Rangers that armed patrols were sent to stop those people: it was now clear that it was an illegal construction company that came to destroy the precious vegetation and raise horrible apartments..."
