Welcome to the fifth thrilling episode of "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs," a classic side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Capcom in 1993. Based on the beloved American comic book series Xenozoic Tales and produced as a tie-in to the short-lived animated series, this episode plunges our heroes into the intense and chaotic "Village of Flame." The fate of the world hangs in the balance, alongside Mess O'Bradovich and the rest of the team, to restore peace and order in a world gone mad.
Village of Flame. This location is aptly named, with blazing fires and treacherous landscapes that test the endurance of any character who dares to pass through. The Village is a labyrinth of dangers, with enemies lurking in every corner, ready to ambush.
As the flames consume the village, chaos reigns, and the inhabitants are left to fend for themselves against not just the fire, but the rampaging dinosaurs driven mad by the Black Marketeers' relentless hunting. The episode highlights the group's relentless pursuit to stop this devastation and protect the remnants of civilization.
Beyond his sheer strength, Mess also exhibits a slight advantage in stamina. He takes less damage from attacks compared to other characters, allowing him to endure one or two more hits. This small edge in durability can make all the difference in the heat of battle, especially in a treacherous environment like the Village of Flame.
Morgan/Morgue boss showdownㅡas they make their way through the village, they encounter a variety of enemies, including the infamous Morgan, who has been orchestrating much of the chaos from behind the scenes. Morgan is a formidable opponent, armed with an Uzi, grenades, and knives. The battle against Morgan is intense, as he uses the environment to his advantage, hurling rocks and using the cover of the flames to launch surprise attacks. However, Mess and his companions are undeterred. With their combined strength, they manage to subdue Morgan, but not before he reveals the existence of a powerful serum that transforms him into a monstrous dinosaur-like creature known as Morgue.
The battle against Morgue is one of the most challenging in the game. Morgue's transformation grants him immense strength and resilience, making him a deadly adversary. However, Mess's ability to deal significant damage quickly proves invaluable in this fight. Despite Morgue's powerful attacks, Mess's high stamina allows him to endure the onslaught and deliver the finishing blow, bringing the monstrous creature to its knees.
However, Mess's greatest challenge lies in his speed. As the slowest of the characters, he requires strategic maneuvering to avoid being outpaced by enemies. Despite this, Mess is far from being a liability. He retains the ability to run like the others, and by mastering his running jump attack, players can effectively mitigate his slower pace, "flying" through levels with agility. This makes Mess not only a formidable choice for boss battles but also an excellent pick for beginners and those aiming for speedruns.
In the Village of Flame, Mess O'Bradovich's combination of raw power, resilience, and strategic adaptability shines, proving once again why he is a force to be reckoned with in the "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs" arcade series.

RePlay reported Cadillacs and Dinosaurs to be the ninth most-popular arcade game at the time.
