In Safeguard, there is an offensive and defensive team. The offensive team has to escort a non-combative robot along a predetermined path to a designated objective, typically near the defensive team's spawn point. The defensive team must intercept the offensive team to prevent the robot from entering this objective. Each team gets a 3 minute time limit to complete their objective.

A team will get 1 point if they conplete their objective in that round (either by bringing the robot to the objective for the offensive team, or by delaying the robot from reaching the destination until the timer reaches 0 for the defensive team). After one round, the teams switch sides, with the offensive team being the defensive one and vise versa. The team that reaches 2 points wins the match.

If both teams earn a tie of 1 point each, the distance of escorting the robot will be recorded for each team and they must complete their objectives in the tiebreaker round to earn 2 points and win.
