Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a First-Person Shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It was released on October 25, 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The sixteenth episode of the Call of Duty series and the fourth video game in the Modern Warfare series, it follows on from Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII chronologically. It is announced on May 30, 2019.

The game takes place in a realistic and modern setting, hence its name. The campaign follows American CIA officers and the British Armed Forces SAS, who team up with rebels from the fictional country of Urzikstan to fight together against the Russian forces that have invaded the country. The game's Special Ops mode features cooperative play missions that follow the story of the campaign. Multiplayer mode supports cross-play multiplayer for the first time in the series. It has been reworked for the gameplay. The game gets more tactical and introduces new features, such as a realism mode that removes all of the HUD as well as a form of land war mode that now supports 64 players.

Infinity Ward started working on the game shortly after its Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare title was released in 2016. They introduced a whole new engine for the game, which allows for further performance improvements, such as more detailed environments. and Ray Tracing capabilities. For the campaign, they drew on real conflicts, such as the Syrian civil war and the terrorist incidents in London. For multiplayer, they rolled out the franchise's traditional Season Pass shortly after release and removed loot boxes, allowing them to distribute free content post-launch to the player base.

The game received mixed reviews prior to release, but was met with positive reviews on release nonetheless. The praise has been directed towards the gameplay, story, multiplayer and graphics, with some criticism directed at the treatment of the campaign topic and the balance issues in multiplayer. In addition, the campaign's description of the Russian army was controversial.
