3Germans encircle the platoon during the Battle of the Bulge. Russell Richardson's African-American combat engineer Howard assists the unit in contacting air support. Daniels learns from German Prisoner intelligence that the Germans intend to demolish Remagen Bridge, the final remaining bridge across the Rhine. The battalion targets a neighboring air base to eliminate the residual bombs after neutralizing the explosives that were in transit. After the attack fails, Zussman is taken prisoner. Pierson fires Daniels from the unit after he disobeys him and tries to chase the truck containing Zussman, failing and getting wounded; Zussman is then transported to a detention camp. For seeing the German intelligence, Daniels receives a Bronze Star and is allowed to go back to his pregnant wife's house.
