The Red Forest is one of the most popular paths of travel between the southern Zone and Jupiter to the north. This includes mutants who by instinct know which way to go. Not having to go through Radar and Pripyat is a whole lot less dangerous by this path to the west and Forester always offers a safe haven from storms and a place to store supplies and get repairs and upgrades. It's also the location of one of the highest structures a person can climb, like the towers in the Truck Cemetery or at the Freedom or Bandit bases. Having the high ground is the best place to be in the Red Forest and to watch all the men and mutants pass each other, in this narrow hidden path where the northern and southern parts of the Zone meet.
