Call Of The Zone - Bandito #399: Mutant Swarm At The Dark Valley Pass
My Men didn't want to leave the comfort and security of the Agroprom Military Base, after our several nights at the Village Ruins in the Marshes. I can't blame them. Our one night there, was the best rest we had all gotten in weeks. What I saw though, was a window of opportunity after the two recent Emissions and Psi Storms, making it ideal for trying to travel through Garbage. I had to drag my men through the foggy hills of the Agroprom, to get them to Garbage and to the Train Depot.
Luckily, we had found the Train Depot empty of both men and mutant. I counted my men as they entered in single file, into the room that had long ago served as the booth for the Bandit Trader named Tooth. That was long ago back in 2011, before Freedom abandoned their Dark Valley Base, for the abandoned Military Base at the Barrier, which was north of Rostok. That is when the Bandits gave up the difficult to hold and supply Garbage Bandit Base, where we stood now. The Loners had held it for many years after that, but now it was just empty. A temporary shelter but sleep at your own risk.
I wanted to push on. I did not want to spend the night here. The road entrance to the Train Depot was clear except for a few small mutants. I mustered my men at the east gate, and I step out into the open but I'm having trouble getting them to follow me. They want to rest at the Train Depot, but I want to get home to the Dark Valley before nightfall. I push on with a few following me but then they run back. I pass the Flea Market and check a stash with some artifacts to grab and go. I keep going and I can see the hills ahead, that shroud the hidden pass and is my destination. Easy to overlook and missed by most unless you know where to look, the passage to the Dark Valley. I was almost there, all alone and ahead of my men, when I get hit by the mutant swarm!
