Can Event Slash Mods Be Worth It? (Warframe)

The short answer is yes, but it depends on the weapon. If the weapon is mostly slash and has a decent status chance, slotting in the 120% slash mod often results in faster killing power even when replacing Primed Cryo Rounds which adds 165% elemental cold damage.

This is because increasing IPS mods will increase the chance that they will proc comparative to other damage types, but slash is unique in the fact that it has a practical damage dealing use, and that is ignoring armor with DoT finisher ticks. I've always known this, but never did a full side-by-side test to really show how true this fact is. Despite dealing less damage per shot, the Braton Prime for example (as shown in the video) will proc the armor ignoring slash procs more often, enough to quickly bleed out the enemy and kill them faster.

It can be noted that despite this fact, it's almost never worth it to make a non-slash based weapon mostly slash with the 120% slash mods, as shown with the Karak Wraith. While the karak wraith now procs more slash, the puncture damage is still high enough to prevent it from proccing enough as well as the lower damage making the weapon suffer more in the long run. It does end up killing at the exact same time, which does prove that slash increased can be powerful, however it serves little purpose on the weapon.

Of course, this also goes without saying, but against unarmored grineer, more viral damage through primed cryo rounds is better than more slash damage and procs, due to sheer elemental viral brute forcing it's way through their health.
