Can I beat Pokemon Renegade Platinum with EXTRA Hardcore Nuzlocke rules? Ding Dong Locke (part 3)
Rules of the Ding Dong Locke:
-Standard Nuzlocke Rules
-Forced set mode and no items during battle
-Forced level caps
-ALL gift, eggs, static encounters and legendaries are banned
-TM substitute is banned
-Limited to only being able to set up once per pokemon in battle (Sword dance and Dragon dance can only be used once in battle)
I’m finally back to Renegade Platinum...and what you’re about to see is the craziest nuzlocke I have ever performed, the dingdonglocke, basically an extreme nuzlocke with even more restrictions in place, Renegade Platinum does have a lot of abusable things in it despite it’s difficulty that can allow even unskilled players to completely cheese, you know what i mean, first of all, level caps will be in place for all gym badges to prevent any overlevelling, I also limit my overlevelling for the other boss battles too, next, ALL gift Pokemon AND static encounters are no longer allowed in this game at all, with the sole exception from your one starter, look, as good as Renegade Platinum is, the fact that you literally get access to 16 gift pokemon, all of which are extremely powerful before the second gym making the game not fun after several attempts, as basically every playthrough becomes the same, they overcentralise the game, roark is ALWAYS marshtomp sweep, gardenia is always substitute sweep and so on, also all static encounters like spiritomb and rotom will also be disallowed, now in this run, there is no set strategy for each gym, no inherent way to cheese, in the dingdonglocke you have to scavenge strategies off the scraps that you catch, all pokemon will have some level of randomness to them as all will be wild encounter, there is no set optimal win all plan anymore, which creates a lot of tension while also forcing you to be very creative,
this is genuinely fin as it adds challenge but also emcourages replay value and strategic thinking, the next BIG restriction is ™ substitute is now banned, look I know it’s great, but it really is too great, the reality is that substitute is incredibly broken as it literally breaks the game, the AI has no idea how to counter and it’s way too overcentrailising, you just end up abusing it every time which is not fun and cheap, for example gardenia and aaron to name a fraction, are completely trivialised with a substitute user and 2 brain cells to go with, BUUUUT, to make this even more insane, all set up strategies will be pretty much removed from this nuzlocke, while set up moves like dragon dance aren’t explicitly banned, I went out of my way to SEVERELY limit their usage, and without sub or baton pass this is not easy to pull off anyways, I think throughout the insane amount of boss battles in this game I only used set up moves in a grand total of 4-5 of them, I added a rule where I am not allowed to boost any stat past 2 stages, making it fair and not abusable, in the 2-3 boss battles where I used dragon dance I limited myself to only one use so plus 1 is in no way unfair or broken, and in another battle I used sword dance once, which is fair, I wouldn’t consider that abusing the AI, especially as they themselves used set up far more frequently than I did.
All of these rules made this extra extreme nuzlocke a crazy experience to remember, so enough about this, let me actually show you what I did, and yes while there will be a lot of variance now, I will give some advise and strategies on how you too would go about doing this.
