Can I run DayZ standalone on this old PC?
After two and a half years of answering everyone, I am no longer providing support. DayZ is in version 0.60 now which has made some major changes, so my testing data is now out of date. So please don't ask for help from me any more.
Can you run DayZ standalone on an old PC? Can my PC run DayZ standalone? Will an old PC with a weak graphics card run DayZ standalone? Can a dual core system run DayZ standalone? Can a low end PC run DayZ standalone?
Here's a video showing DayZ standalone running on a Core 2 Duo 3GHz with an Nvidia 260 GTX (not a 265 GT like I say in the voiceover). And it gets 20fps to 30 fps in most situations.
I have heard reports of some high end PCs with multiple graphics cards running DayZ standalone with a poor framerate, but that's likely to be an optimisation issue that will improve over time. DayZ standalone is in alpha at the moment. A lot of games use terms like alpha and beta inappropriately, but DayZ does not. The alpha phase of development means that a game basically works, but not all the features are complete or implemented. It will contain multiple bugs, some of which are catastrophic. A game should only go into beta when it's 'feature-complete' and only issues such as balance and minor bugs remain. DayZ standalone means it when it says its an alpha, so you can expect framerate to improve over what it's like today.
As I say in the video, bear in mind that Dxtory does slow the framerate whilst recording, so it runs a bit better than it does in the video. Having an older PC does not mean that you can't run the DayZ standalone. People with integrated graphics (ie not actual graphics card) are likely to be out of luck though.

I'm no longer providing support, so this information is no longer relevant, but I'm leaving it here in case it is useful.

On all my DayZ videos, I try to answer technical questions but, since the changes to the comments system, it has become very difficult to do so. I'll still try to answer your questions, but I'm sorry if I just don't see them.
If you need my help (although I never expected anyone to ask) to work out if you can run DayZ, what I need to know are three things:
1. Your processor model (in the video I use a Core 2 Duo E8400 - the E8400 is the most important bit to tell me). If you don't know, check this article:
http://www.wikihow.com/Tell-What-Kind-of-Processor-You-Have
2. Your graphics card. The full name of it. If you don't know, follow the article below and it'll be listed under "Adapter Type". I also need to know how much memory your graphics card has available. That's listed under "Total Available Graphics Memory" if you follow this article:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001307.htm
3. How much RAM you have. This will tell you if you don't know:

Apparently, clicking 'like' helps me in some way that I don't understand. So if you like the video or I help you out in the comments, please click like.
