3Can I beat Metaphor:ReFantazio with 4 Mages?
Rules:
1. I must play a new game on Hard Mode.
2. Only Mage lineage allowed (I can level, but not use, other Archetypes).
3. Only Mage attack spells allowed. Not only are Dragoon and Summoner simply better at being Mages than Mages are, they also give you spells to circumvent magic resisting enemies, unlike Mage.
Now you might think I am memeing for calling it a challenge run. I thought I was memeing too.
I'm not. Mage sucks. It's very, very bad.
Some of the reasons:
just low damage on spells in general
many enemies resist magical
there is physical Fire, Electric, Light and Almighty to cover resistances, but no magical Slash/Pierce/Strike (for Mage)
spells cannot crit
most buff skills you could inherit are specifically for physical attacks, and the ones that are universal (like Sense of Kinship and Revenge Seeker) are locked behind late dates (you don't unlock Berserker until 09/14 and Destroyer until 09/26)
better Mage Archetypes are locked behind Gallicas Follower Rank. You get Gallica 8 for Elemental Master on 09/24. This is more than a month after unlocking Samurai.
the best Mage weapon drops from destroying the crystals in the final dungeon, meaning you cannot battle the final final boss if you want that weapon
Mages aren't even the best casters. That would be Summoner, and ideally [lategame] you'd be combining Prince (Blackguard Hammer) with Summoner (Summon Undead King / Genma / Dragon God).
I'm gonna ban inheriting Summon Genma and Summon Fury too, as well as Dragoon attack skills, because it would allow me to circumvent enemies that resist magic.

I play Metaphor ReFantazio with the MC Will and my followers Strohl, Hulkenberg, Heismay, Junah, Eupha, Basilio and Neuras. Together we tackle the Boss Louis, the Dragon, the Elegy of the Soul, although I have done 3 challenge runs / 4 playthroughs at this point, and still not a single NG+ to take on the Superboss.
I am a huge fan of this game, and I've been loving the Metaphor ReFantazio OST and gameplay ever since I played the demo!
I am pretty new to JRPGs and have only played Persona 5 Royal and Metaphor ReFantazio so far. I'm very excited to tackle on other Atlus games like Persona 4 Golden, Persona 3 Reload and the Shin Megami Tensei (SMT) franchise next.
