C&C Tiberian Dawn: The Covert Operations - GDI - Twist of Fate 1/4
####Check my 2nd play through out on my channel before commenting about Sandbags. My Mk. II play through has this and other levels that 'need' Sandbags without using them, Deceit in particular is worth checking out in that playlist.
Coincidentally, I did this level faster WITHOUT Sandbags####
Part 1/4 of level six in my C&C Tiberian Dawn: The Covert Operations - GDI walkthrough.
The most important bit of this level is the beginning, why's that? Just look at this map: http://pnmedia.gamespy.com/planetcnc.gamespy.com/games/td/maps/scg41ea.png
All their units, your starting forces and where your MCV arrives (north east corner), contribute to a very hard level. The fact they have all that defence, a prebuilt Temple of Nod, most of the Tiberium by their base, a second base that despite being small, will cost a few thousand to crack.
You don't need to stop them getting Tiberium, you could allow them the three Blossom trees to the south east of their base, but bear in mind it will take MUCH MUCH longer. The ideal thing to do is to Sandbag them in their base, Sandbag enough of your base in (allowing you breathing space and a few Tiberium fields), and then assaulting the middle base, by first attacking the Advanced Power Plants (Rocket Launchers are ideal, as they can shoot over the ridge for two of them). Once you've captures/sold the Construction Yard in this base, work your way towards the northern and north western Tiberium fields, and also destroying, or using as an advanced position the north west Communications outpost. You may think, well this is easy now. Think again, they will start launching Nukes at you, which when you speed up the game, cost you alot (your reaction times are slow). Just spider some sandbags + an AGT and keep rebuilding it when it gets destroyed. They also have long range SSMs to counter, which will outstrip ALL your units and base defences (try a couple of Orcas). They also have constant Airstrikes targetted at you. Your next thing to try is to assemble a HUGE Orca fleet, 10+ in fact. Once you've used the Sandbag + AGT/Guard Tower trick to see in their base, attack the Construction Yard with them + an Ion Cannon. Your next targets should be the Temple of Nod and the Airfield. This will cost soo much money, but so would a tank assault, and the tank assault likely won't be successful. Your next targets should be the Advanced Power Plants. Target them ALL with the Ion Cannon, whilst assembling a Tank force (either Light Tanks or Medium Tanks). 20 or so SHOULD finish the job off, just make sure you get the Hand of Nod and the Helipads quickly, so they're stuck with what they have left.
Well, I think that's enough 'overview' to this level, which is indeed one of the hardest C&C levels I've played.
Time for the necessary, 'what I did', section.
From dealing with the initial Nod forces (sell the Guard Towers), trying to take as many down as I can, to setting up a base by the flare via my reinforcement MCV.
Watch out for Infantry attacks, and if you don't act quick enough Tanks too (they'll still amass until you cripple their economy by the Sandbags anyway). I then trap them in their base with Sandbags, using cheap Guard Towers to reveal the terrain.
