Hey guys, super excited to be back with another WORLD RECORD speedrun! β±οΈ
So I know that I recently ran this one, but after the fact I checked the requirements for the Primary Objectives and realised that you don't actually need to cap the production structures for the Any% run. I was actually quite excited when it occured to me, and quickly jotted down a seriously aggressive strategy that included using the initial Shadow Team as well as the Shadow Strike Team support power AND the talented Commando.
I'd hoped to destroy 2-3 buildings with the Shadows and the three Southern GDI with the Commando. (The Commando tends to die if she has to destroy more than 3 buildings.) It was a pretty exciting idea...
Yet all four starting Shadow Teams combined failed to destroy a single GDI Airfield. AND the following two Shadow Teams failed to close the deal. I think it's fair to say that anyone the plays online would find this quite shocking. In fact, anyone that has played the Andrew's Airforce Base mission (Nod 2) will know that two Shadow Teams can destroy one GDI Airfield in that mission, as opposed to the six in this one.
This renders the Shadow Teams absolutely useless outside of scouting. I considered them for destroying Power Plants, but there wasn't much point.
Therefore, the best time save was utilising the Commando to destroy three GDI buildings at the South and save 15 seconds of Saboteur production time, as well as traveling time. With three less Saboteurs required at that point, we can send the three required at the CLOSER Southern Scrin base earlier, making the run much faster.
There is an additional condition to consider, also. Capturing both of the Scrin Drone Platforms triggers an audio file that plays before the Victorious graphic displays and the mission ends. This takes around an additional 10 seconds and therefore significantly elongates the mission. There is a trick to preventing this, which is to capture ALL structures except the final Scrin Drone Platform, allowing all of the other Primary Objectives to trigger first.
You'll notice me wait to capture it.
Take a look at the top of the screen and the sequence of Objective completion text. If the "Capture both Alien Drone Platforms" Objective is last, there isn't an opportunity for the audio to drop before the Victorious is triggered.
That's it. The fastest run possible as far as I can tell. Maybe you can shave a second off, but good luck with that. I'm releasing this video with my sanity in-tact.
