Game Description
Carnival is a classic video game released for the Atari 2600 console in 1982. It was developed and published by Coleco, and it became one of the most popular titles for the system. Carnival is a single-player game that is set in an amusement park theme.
In Carnival, players control a stationary cannon at the bottom of the screen, while a series of targets move horizontally across the top. The objective is to shoot the moving targets, which consist of ducks, bears, and other objects, to score points. The cannon can be moved left and right to aim at the targets, and players can fire bullets to hit them.
Each target has a different point value, and shooting them awards the corresponding number of points. However, the targets also shoot back at the player, and if the cannon is hit by their projectiles, a life is lost. Players start with three lives, and the game ends when all lives are depleted.
Carnival features several different stages or screens, each with its own set of targets and challenges. As the game progresses, the targets move faster and become more difficult to hit. Additionally, bonus rounds are interspersed throughout the game, where players must shoot a set number of moving balloons for extra points.
Carnival is often remembered as one of the defining games of the Atari 2600 era and has left a lasting impact on the history of video games. It showcases the charm and appeal of early arcade-style games and remains a nostalgic favorite among retro gaming enthusiasts.
