Case Based-I: Any undesirable change in chemical, biological or physical properties of biosphere is referred as pollution. It includes pollution of air, water and land which can cause harmful effect to various life forms and property. Pollution causing substances are called pollutants which include dust, smoke or chemical substances like sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide etc. Other factors such as heat, noise etc. also comes in this category. Thus, pollutant can be - defined as presence of constituents in wrong concentration at wrong place or wrong time. Air pollution is the occurrence - of foreign particles or gases in the atmosphere which are harmful to man, vegetation, animals and even buildings.
- There are two main causes of air pollution as follows;
Natural - It includes pollen grains, dust, forest fire etc.
Anthropogenic - Use of vehicles, burning of fossil fuels, effluents from industries or thermoelectric plants, crushing of stone and so on.
