Advocates with the Nonhuman Rights Project have sued the Bronx Zoo, claiming 'Happy,' an Asian elephant, deserves the same rights as a 'person.'

The group says Happy is being illegally confined and want her freed, arguing that elephants are cognitively complex and autonomous. They say Happy has passed a test of self-awareness and deserves the same right to freedom as humans.

The zoo says Happy is, in fact, happy and well-maintained at the zoo.
