2On the first take I only played as far as the main character collapsing. Didn't know I was gonna see a seal. Oh, and getting the moth is guaranteed. You really need it for anything.
I've found out from playing farther that the regular AP tutorial didn't come up because I never had a move I couldn't afford. Since you get 2 AP per turn normally, that requires either being debuffed with AP Down, or a 3 AP move. The unrandomized starters both learn a 3 AP move from the first star level.
Mentioned but not seen: Sirenade and Decibelle are air monsters that are most notable for being one of the few monsters that learn Echolocate, a move which activates at start of battle and grants the "Multitarget" status, allowing single target moves to hit all targets.
