I just played till my first death in this footage.

Castlevania Bloodlines is a solid outing for the Sega Genesis, and lets you choose between two main characters to play through the game. The mechanics are solid for the series. Konami games were always a bit weird on the Genesis, and most of them were a lot tougher than their Snes counterparts (Sunset Riders, Contra Hard Corps are good examples), or maybe I am just more used to the Snes versions.

For some reason I've always found this game to be really difficult for me, I think it's because the limited continues in the game. I don't know if the continues are limited in Bloodlines in the Japanese or Pal versions, but the NTSC version has a limit on continues meaning, if you are just learning the game, you can run out of continues, even with the password system in place.

I guess the point is to learn the game well enough to not have to continue, but that takes a more hardcore focus than I usually possess. I do know that I have gotten to the final level in this game before, but I don't think I have ever beaten it. I think I gave up thanks to how much of a pain in the butt it is to make the jumps in the last level of the game. I lost my passwords, and I haven't made it back to the last level in years.

Overall, though, while not the best Castlevania of it's era, it definitely is the strangest looking and playing Castlevania game of it's era. The game definitely has a much different feel from the Nes, and Snes games in the series. It's still a good game overall, it's just freaking weird like all the other Konami releases on the Genesis. Except Hyperstone, I love Hyperstone, even more than the Turtles in Time. Blasphemy? Nah, I've just owned it longer, and it plays and controls better than TMNT4, even without the mode 7 throw-your-enemies-at-the-screen effects.
