The game was played using genuine cartridge, Retron 5 and SNES controller. Fights are definitely not super-optimized as I just wanted to try this challenge alongside casual playthrough. The game was definitely laggy at times and I don't know if this occurs when playing with original GBA. Lagging may allow more time to react but sometimes controller inputs wouldn't connect at all. But enough talk, have at you!
-Cerberus-
Nothing special here really. You can see me trying to hit the enemy during i-frames like an idiot, since I hadn't tried this boss many times yet and hadn't learned the ropes.
-Necromancer-
Slightly more annoying fellow but not too bad. The rings he launches can be really quick, depending on the angle they are shot. Last phase is easy: just stay on the platform and dodge and whip.
-Iron Golem-
I "almost" beat this my first try, meaning that it "only" took probably 10-20 times. The healing can be a troll if the inflicted damage is insufficient.
-Adramelech-
Talk about difficulty spike, holy moses! This old goat doesn't pull his punches. The blue flames and skulls aren't really the problem, but the poison bubbles appearing under your feet. So, I took the easy way out and defeated him by ONLY using knives. I even allowed some item usage to replenish hearts. Even though I was a cheap son of a bee, I did dodge his flames like a ninja.
-Dragon Zombies-
This is where I decided that the fireball shield is allowed in this challenge. Defeating these ugly things with whip and knives only was a pain. And the reason for this were mostly the falling rocks! Thus, I didn't only use the shield to damage the dragons, but also to counter the falling debris. When any of the dragons slammed their head in the wall I would re-activate the shield and try adjusting the fireball above my head so that, should the rock fall in my position, it would get blocked. Even without the rocks, the dragons can be tricky as they can make some surprisingly sudden movements.
-Death-
This time, Mr. Death is not doing his best. The fireball shield does help a ton and needless to say, the little sickles are the worst. In the second phase, the golem whip allows keeping distance while holding the button and swinging the whip to block the sickles. This wasn't your night, Death. See you in Harmony of Dissonance.
-Camilla-
Could have been tough without the fireball shield. Sometimes Camilla may hit you when crouching on the platform you see me on, but this time it just didn't happen. Cool skull, though.
-Hugh-
During the first form you can actually walk away from Hugh and he can't catch you and if you have your shield on, he'll take damage. You can't be too far though or he starts throwing knives. During the second form, I used slide to quickly escape from his proximity. Otherwise this form ain't too bad, but the holy water now has surprisingly long range!
-First Dracula fight-
One of the easiest fights in the game. I used golem whip to extend my reach and threw a couple of knives in there but could have been done without using any magic or subs. The only tricky attack is the electric bat swarm. The technique to avoid these bats is to stay on the far end side opposite of Dracula and crouch. If Dracula is anywhere near the center, you have to jump over one of the bats and then crouch. You can tell that he's gonna use the electric bats as he rises his cape quicker compared to other attacks, giving you time to prepare.
-Final Dracula fight-
I think dodging an actual meteor in real life is easier than trying to avoid the showers this big meanie throws at you! This is where I tried probably 100 times before giving up and allowing the use of boomerang to end the first phase of the fight quickly. You can stay crouched and wait for the meteor and as you see one coming your way, you can quickly slide, but it doesn't save you if there's another one coming at the position where you're sliding at. You can see me being confident and throwing boomerangs amidst the meteors but this time it's pure luck that none of them hit. Second phase is easier: just super-jump when you hear the sound before the boss lunges at you and when he turns into an eyeball surrounded by bats, just keep some safe distance, watch out for the bats and toss those boomerangs. You can see me miss a lot of boomerangs here because this was probably my second or third try with the boomerang! So I guess, with these weapons at my disposal, it wasn't hard after all.
It was definitely challenging and I'm kind of glad it's over. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more video game related videos :]
