Just in time for October! So, here's a small story for you: Back when I was new to making chiptune music in 2016-2017, I would listen to all the demo tunes in the chiptune trackers that were around at the time (such as FamiTracker, DefleMask, and TFM Music Maker). One of the demo tunes I remember discovering was a cover of this tune included with DefleMask (covered by MrKsoft for the Commodore 64 system). At the time, the song's name in the "song name" field was just "Wiz Lab," with MrKSoft's username in the author field. Since I didn't listen to much video game music beyond any Mario game and the Follin Bros at the time, I just assumed that this was an original piece by MrKsoft. I first covered this tune in April 2017 using OpenMPT and samples from various SNES games (from a soundfont, that is). Later on, in June 2017, I decided to cover the song again on Master System in HertzDevil's SnevenTracker. It was after I uploaded that version that MrKsoft revealed that his C64 tune I listened to was a cover instead of an original piece. While I have corrected the title of both my OpenMPT and Master System covers, I had thought to myself, "I shoud listen to the original version of this tune some day." Well, 8 years later, I finally decided to listen to the original version. After listening to it, that was when I decided, "Okay, now I should definitely revisit this cover." The low amount of polyphony was a challenge, but fun! Except for the clavinet sequence samples, every sample used comes from Super Castlevania and Castlevania Dracula X.
