For further context, the strategy in the first room of A-01 is to throw holy water at the right candle after making the axe appear from the left candle. Because by this point the damage count to track when your next multiplier drops is through the roof with all the bosses you killed, that will have a triple shot for you to grab after you get the axe, effectively transferring over the multiplier to a new weapon for the Dracula fights.
But instead of using holy water to hit the candle, I whipped it and couldn't get the triple shot.
