Been going through the Lords of Shadow series lately out of my own personal curiosity. I honestly wasn't a fan of the first game, it felt very unrefined as an action game with way too many small issues to count (namely fast enemy attacks that made it hard to react, poor visibility, really janky hitboxes, etc.) as well as it being longer than it needed to which had me exhausted by the end. (post-credits scene ruled though)

I was a bit worried going into Mirror of Fate and Lords of Shadow 2. But, thankfully, I actually ended up enjoying Mirror of Fate, and Lords of Shadow 2 so far has been incredibly fun. I was not expecting Mirror of Fate to improve so much mechanically from LoS1, and I'm glad they carried those lessons into LoS2. These games are absolutely bizarre and I don't think they really earn the 'Castlevania' title until the latter two games, and yeah I know these games don't compare to the main series (which I intend to play more of later this year), but it's fascinating to see MercurySteam improve as action game devs as time went on. I don't even hate this game's stealth sections, oddly enough! I'd do without them if I could, gladly, but I'm like halfway through the game and they haven't bugged me as much as I thought they would.

(psst hey Konami please re-release Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness, I REALLY wanna play those)
