Casual speedrun helped uncover bug for new strategies.
I explore how my casual Quake speedrunning 21 years ago helped be a catalyst for others discovering the secrets of the Lightning Gun bug in Quake used to fire lightning through walls and kill enemies creating new opportunities.
This topic has recently been covered in two awesome videos here.

I thought I would look back into what motivated me to play Quake that way as I was a long way from getting an SDA record. Join me on a journey of nostalgia and websites from the early 2000s that look very ugly. Just think if I was a better Quake player, I wouldn't have been so nervous and attacked that second shambler that way. I wouldn't have hit the vore through the wall, and thought I'd ruined my demo. I wouldn't have had a moan to Stubby who wouldn't smash the end 100% demos, and collect a prestigious Nolan award for best trick.
The trick would have come out one day, but it was nice to be a part of it!
For getting to the end of the description, here is the link to my old site that inspired me to push for my PBs https://web.archive.org/web/20050213044017/http://www.100megsfree4.com/tim/m4rj.html I hope to get an Easy 100% all of Quake to speedrun.com in the future :)
