Stoimen‘s advice to all the artists who are trying to break into VFX.
If you are a junior or an aspiring Matte Painter who is trying to land your first Matte Painting or Environment position in the VFX film industry, this reel is a great example of how your DMP/ENVIRONMENT reel should look like.
When applying for any position out there, it is important that your reel consist of work which is only related to the position you are applying for.
Here are some good points why this reel is a good example and what makes it stand out.
First of all it is really well structured. It consists of only matte painting and evironment work. It starts with the best work(the work you are most proud of) and follows by relevant.
The reel showcases both artistic and technical skills.
It‘s lenght is less than 2 min.
NOTE! If you are in doubt about a certain work of yours and whether to have it in your reel or not, better exclude it, because you will be judged by the worst! Or always a good advice is to ask senior artists or ask in forums, social medea groups etc. for feedback! You will be surprised how much artists around the globe are willing to help.
