Classic Game Room presents CGR's ON THIS DAY IN GAMING. On August 14, 1995, Nintendo's Virtual Boy, the brainchild of Gunpei Yokoi, was released in North America. The system would take a different route of 3D gaming than consoles like the N64 and the Playstation, instead attempting to immerse the player with parallax. The novelty would become a failure, and coupled with a disastrous marketing ploy, would be discontinued in less than a year.
