Classic Game Room presents CGR's ON THIS DAY IN GAMING! On July 12, 1990, Square's Final Fantasy was released in North America. The aptly named title saved the company from bankruptcy, and ensured its head planner Hironobu Sakaguchi would continue to invest his talents in the video game industry. The game's release in the U.S., with its emphasis on presentation, epic story-telling, and gameplay innovations helped to popularize the RPG, though it would take a number of sequels to build up a formidable fanbase.
