After being sucked out of a cargo plane above the Rub' al Khali desert, Nate grabs onto a piece of cargo and engages the cargo's parachute, floating down to the sand below. Nate investigates the flaming wreckage of the crashed cargo plane. He begins to make his way through the desert, and after some time comes to a well. However, Nate finds the well empty, and as he continues on through the desert day turns to night. That night, Nate attempts to locate using the stars, although he is unsuccessful and the next day, begins hallucinating as he sees his friend, Sully, motioning to him from the top of a nearby sand dune. Nate follows Sully and comes across an oasis, only to find that it is a mirage; instead of the oasis, there is the same well Nate has previously visited. As Nate criticises himself for going around in circles, he begins hearing Katherine Marlowe reciting "The Waste Land", a poem written by T.S. Eliot. As Marlowe continues reciting the poem, Nate continues through the desert, eventually coming to a red rock featuring a ledge where Nate seeks refuge beneath and falls asleep. After several hours of sleep, Nate wakes up at night, but as he continues on through the Rub' al Khali he collapses in a state of exhaustion. When Nate wakes up the next morning, he sees Sully stood above him. After Sully has helped Nate to his feet, the former dissapears, revealing that Nate was again hallucinating, and shortly after this, Nate comes to the top of a sand dune, from where he can see a desert village
