Finally. It's done. The 400mil Ifumi score I envisionned months ago has been reached!
As she was the first character I played seriously, Ifumi's first high score run ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVbwAok7WVo ) was not the most optimized since my understanding of the game was not as encompassing. But over time I played with other characters, learned new things, and thought of even more strats to boost the score and get beyond this incredibly cool threshold.
Even though I knew going from 385 to 400mil was doable a while ago, I didn't grind super intensively right off the bat as I still had plenty of things to juggle. Other games, events, meetups and tourneys, shmupdev, etc.
Well, I actually managed to get a 395 mil run ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JesKbFlalbQ ) a few days before Calice Cup 8 back in April. A PB, but I wasn't really interested in posting it publicly since it was below my goal and I imagined getting 400 mil would happen quickly after that event anyways. Turns out it was not so quick lol.
After releasing a demo for my own shmup, I felt I could focus more on Chaos Field once again, and go back to grinding runs. I still learned some new things in the meanwhile, especially on stage 1 that I kept resetting lol. But eventually I was able to get this run that started out decent but not amazing. Perhaps not having an especially astounding stage 1 score is what let me keep my cool and not take hits. Stage 2 is especially brutal for Ifumi but I was able to survive it partially thanks to safe sword swipes.
But of course, things got a lot more tense when I reached stage 5 and especially the 5-2 and 5-3 gauntlet. I had a few runs making it there but dying or not nailing full combo due to lack of resources. However, this time I had everything I needed. I did not want to fail close to the finish line yet another time...and thankfully I pulled it through.
Man, what a game and an adventure that was! 400 might as well be the number of hours I played Chaos Field lmao. Despite dying and resetting many many times, I kept stubbornly going regardless, as if on a mission from my own obsessed mind lmao. Ifumi seems to be the hardest character to score with but also the one with the most potential, so it's a nice climax to that score quest that innocently started two and a half years ago when I got more curious about clearing and getting better at this game.
Nailing that score is definitely a huge weight off my shoulders and I am free to play and score even more games now! But who knows if there aren't more things to do in this game...
