That's mostly due to the difficulty spike, but you also have the challenge of safely moving the Hero back to the rest of the party. You CAN leave him up by Balbaroy if you want, but you'll need to rush like nobody's business with the rest of your party to reinforce his position, and that's never a good idea in games like this.
