Chase HQ (1988) Vs Chase HQ 2 (2006)
A split-screen comparison between the arcade version of Chase HQ by Taito (1988) running on MAME versus it's belated arcade follow up Chase HQ 2 (2006) running on PC thanks to some clever hackers.
This particular comparison is one I'd always hoped to make one day and now that Chase HQ 2 is finally playable on PC, I can. Hurrah. Funnily enough, just a week or two before the Chase HQ 2 dump emerged online, I'd thought about making a comparison between the original arcade version of Chase HQ and the Megadrive game called Chase HQ 2 (no relation to the 2006 Type X2 one), but this works out much better.
I'd never got to play Chase HQ 2 in the arcade, and as a huge fan of the original I desperately wanted to give it a try. I'm glad it hasn't disappointed. Sure it's short and the graphics look a smidge primitive by today's standards, but this totally pushes all my arcade racer buttons, it's fast, handles well (and exactly like an arcade racer should) and sounds good. And hey, arcade racers are supposed to be short and fun. It you want realism and hundreds of cars to unlock go play Gran Forizma Shift 8 Horizon Symphony or something.
