After a disastrous 2nd batch of Retronet v3 units I had my confidence hit. It actually turns our to be a bad batch of TTL-RS232 translators ICS. Fortunately I have moved to a Texas Instruments device and it is great. The earlier chips I am 90% sure were clones. Terrifying to think clone chips are out there and can really kill your projects.
