OpenAI has released a new AI classifier tool to help users determine if a block of text was written by a human or a computer (including ChatGPT). The tool ranks the text on a scale of AI-generated, possibly, unclear, unlikely, or very unlikely. OpenAI mentions that the classifier is not fully reliable, as it correctly identifies 26% of AI-written text as "likely AI-written," and incorrectly labels 9% of the human-written text as AI-written. The classifier has limitations, such as working worse with text of less than 1,000 words and only working well with English-language text.
